I am so saddened to hear of Ms. Parkins' passing. I met Ms. Parkins at Cumberland County DSS in the late '70's. She was the administrator over the program I worked in while at DSS and she lived near me in Hope Mills. She was a mentor to me as I progressed in my career and outside of work we enjoyed going to the Bordeaux Spa. We thoroughly enjoyed a couple of day trips to Sunset Beach together in 1980. Her first grandchild was born about the same time as my first child and we enjoyed talking about our babies. She was such an encourager to me as a new mom. It was about the time my second child was born that she moved to Durham. I was sad to see her leave Hope Mills but happy that she would spend her retirement near the family she loved so much and spoke about so fondly. She was a wonderful lady and I cherish my memories of her. You are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult times.

We became acquainted at Olli. Bette was such a sweet lady; she loved to chat about her trips. When I delivered some quilting fabric to her home for the Quilters Guild, she took me on a house tour pointing out all her lovely quilts. She was so very proud of her grown children and their successes. My condolences to you and may Bette rest in peace.
